Pattern Collection inspired by endangered plants
Save the Flowers Pattern Collection
I had so much fun doing research for my April collection. I love creating floral patterns and thought it would be interesting to research endangered California plants for inspiration. I have been working this month on being more mindful of my wasteful habits and my impact on the environment as my way of celebrating Earth Day this month. So endangered plants was my focus. I did a lot of research on plants native to California that were threatened and developed a mood board of reference images. I found quite a lot of images for inspiration that I needed multiple boards to collect them all. Here are some of my reference boards:
I like working with shapes and definitely found some great shapes in these flowers. I did a bunch of quick sketches of all the shapes I was most attracted to as a starting point. Here are some of my sketches . . .
From there I developed motifs to use in a range of designs. I was going for a nice muted and soft color palette. I created a few patterns with two color ways each. I could definitely see these designs on a range of products from sheets, wallpaper, to apparel. I named my collect, Save the Flowers, here are the designs!
I hope at least one of these patterns makes you smile! All of the designs are available to purchase through Spoonflower on fabric or wallpaper. Contact me if you are interested in licensing any of the designs or would like to work with me.
