Tips for Organizing Your Google Chrome

Google Chrome is my favorite internet browser, especially because of some of its organizational aspects. I’m going to share a few of my favorite things that you may not know about . . .

The Bookmark Bar

I’m going to start with the bookmark bar in case you aren’t already using it. The bookmark bar is located under the search bar and is a great place for organizing frequently utilized websites.

Saving Sites

If you are currently on a website that you would like to save, you can click the lock in the search bar and drag it to your bookmarks bar. This will create a link in your bookmarks to that site.

A tip, if the site’s icon is easily recognizable, right-click the bookmark and click edit. Erase the title and click enter. This will show only the icon on your bookmarks bar and create room for more bookmarks.

Create folders

To categorize your bookmarks you can right-click the bookmarks bar and click “add folder”. You can then drag your bookmarks into that folder. I do this for collecting links for a specific client or for personal categories such as home, shopping, etc.

Organizing Tabs

Your tabs are located at the top of your browser. You can click the plus sign to open a new tab. This is helpful if you need to shift between sites or you like to have certain tabs open to return to later. If you are like me, I constantly have a bunch of tabs open so it helps to do a few things to organize them.

Pinned Tabs

If you have tabs that you regularly like to have open you can pin them. Pinning them pins them to the left side of your browser and keeps them there in case you restart your browser. To pin a tab, right-click the tab, choose “pin tab” and it will pin it for you.

Group tabs

Another way to organize tabs is to group them. I do this when I have many tabs for a particular project open and I want to keep them together. You can do this by right-clicking a tab, clicking “add a tab to new group” and naming your group. From there you can right-click other tabs and click “add to group”.

I hope this was helpful! Start organizing your browser so you can work more efficiently. Let me know if you have any questions or any additional tips to share!
